info

In this brand new project, the fiery Belgian jazz/rock/fusion trio SLANG offers a collaboration with the great Indian sitar player Purbayan Chatterjee. This results in a captivating meeting that enables the four musicians to push even further the boundaries of their multi-faceted musical language, breathing into the music a refreshing and innovative newfound energy.

Purbayan Chatterjee is a young but major sitar player in the Indian classical music scene. He travels around festivals worldwide. Outside the path of hindustani classical music, he loves and is open to meeting new people and cultures. Slang invited him for the first time for a creation on the occasion of Europalia India in autumn 2013. Seeing him play the electric sitar with a pedalboard as if he was playing the electric guitar, some already call him the Jimmy Hendrix of the sitar. What is certain is that his musical world and Slang's harmoniously fit together.

Slang's underlying aim is to never be restricted by the established barriers between styles. The band creates its music by drawing indifferently on all kinds of music from all over the world, so that each track has its own special flavour. Going through the prism of multicultural music called 'ethnic', the group's compositions chose most of all not to choose, carefully avoiding being locked into a straitjacket, too narrow or rigid. Their inspiration leads them to sketch a world just as we experience it everyday : mixed.
